William Cawthorne
His wife, who lives at 7 Merton Street, Shipley, has been officially informed that her
husband, L Cpl William Cawthorne, Duke of Wellington’s West Riding Regt has been
killed in action on 27th March.
He was 30 years of age and employed by Mr Noble, grocer, Otley Road, before he
joined up in August 1916.
He had been at the front twice, the interval having been spent in England in recovering
from trench fever and trench feet.
His wife has received a letter of sympathy from his platoon officer who added that the
deceased was a popular, cheerful and courteous NCO and set an example of devotion to
duty that would be remembered by all who knew him.
