Much sympathy will be felt with
the parents and young widow of
Pte C Dawson of Tong Park who
met his death whilst carrying a
message to an officer.
Pte Dawson, who was in the 3rd
Duke of Wellington’s Regt, joined
the army on February 1st of this
year and was only drafted to
France towards the end of August
as a signaller.
Sgt S Smith, of the same regiment,
writes: “He was a good soldier and
well liked by all. We are very sorry
to lose him so soon. I hope it will
be some consolation for you to
know he was laid to rest in a neat
little cemetery just behind the
firing line.
“I hope you will accept our
deepest sympathy in your sad
bereavement.”
The deceased soldier was only 21
years of age. He was the son of Mr
and Mrs W Dawson of Tong Park
who are highly respected in the
district.
