John Dean
John was the eldest of four children of John and Mary Jane Dean. At the
time of the 1911 census they were living at 25 Piccadilly, Shipley. John
snr is described as a boatman, carrying coal, while John jnr is a worsted
spinner.
On 19 October 1917 the Shipley Times & Express reported:
Mrs Dean of 12 Wellington Street, Windhill, has received official news
that her son, Pte John Dean, 20, single, who joined the army in November
last, is missing.
Before the war Pte Dean was a carter, employed by John Wade. He has
been in France about five months.
Pte Dean’s brother, Arthur, 18, is in training at Clipstone Camp.
It is now known that John was killed the day he went missing
