Fred Harrison
The news received yesterday morning that Pte Fred Harrison, formerly
resident in Harrogate Road, Greengates, has died in Mesopotamia through
sunstroke, aroused considerable regret throughout the whole village and
the surrounding neighbourhood where the deceased soldier was
exceedingly well known.
Pte Harrison was formerly a valuable member of the now defunct
Greengates CC and for a period assisted the Thackley CC.
About four years ago he emigrated to Canada where he was most
successful.
He returned to this country on the outbreak of the war and enlisted in the
Worcester Regiment. Before going to Canada he was employed by Messrs
G Garnett and Sons, Valley Mills, Apperley Bridge.
