Thomas Norman Hiley
The many friends of Sgt T N Hiley,
of the 7th battalion, East Yorkshire
Regt, will be delighted to hear of
his promotion.
Sgt Hiley is the son of Mr Joseph
Hiley of 2 Howard Street, Shipley.
He enlisted on September 8th 1914,
proceeding to France on July 12th
1915.
Previously he was employed at Mr
H J Mason’s, Victoria Works,
Shipley.
As a boy he attended Rosse Street
Baptist Church and Sunday School
and later became a member of the
St Lawrence Church, Bolton
Woods. He was a popular player
with the St Lawrence football team
and at the time he enlisted, quite a
number of the boys associated with
the club followed his lead.
In a recent letter home he referred to the
fact that all leave had been stopped
owing to the heavy fighting in which
his particular division had been
engaged. But for that, he might have
been home last week.
He is unmarried and in his 25th year.
