George Hodgetts
Mrs Hodgetts of 11 John Street,
Woodbottom, Baildon, has
received official information that
her husband, Pte George Hodgetts
of the York and Lancs Regt has
been killed in action in France.
Pte Hodgetts, who was only 23
years of age, leaves a wife and one
child, a boy, 12 months old.
Prior to the war he was employed
by Messrs Wilkinson and
Newsholme Ltd, dyers, finishers,
Charlestown.
He was an ex member of the Shipley Celtic F.C.
and also of the Dyers’ Club, Trades Hall,
Shipley.
When home on his last leave, he had an
attack of pneumonia and had to be treated
for three weeks in St Luke’s Hospital,
Bradford, after which he was sent to
France.
Pte George Hodgetts was brother to
Rifleman William Hodgetts, who died
from wounds on May 22nd and who was
accorded military honours at his funeral at
Windhill Cemetery on May 25th.
The two soldiers were sons of Mrs Hodgetts of 3
Jane Hills, Shipley.
