Alfred Johnson
In the 1911 census, Alfred was living with his widowed sister, Alice
Hoyle, and her two children at 37 Church Hill Baildon.
The next we hear of him is:
The Rev John Shenton preached at the Wesleyan Chapel, Baildon, on
Sunday afternoon when a memorial service was held for Pte Alfred
Johnson of the Bradford Pals Battalion, who was killed in action in France
on 1st July.
An appropriate sermon from the text ‘Why this loss of Ointment?’ was
given. A large company assembled as a token of respect to the fallen
soldier who was an enthusiastic worker in all spheres of activity in
connection with the Wesleyan cause.
