Sydney Lister
The death occurred at his home, Leeds Road, Windhill, on Sunday, of Mr
Sydney Lister, who as a private soldier had seen considerable service.
Lister, who enlisted at the outbreak of war, was gassed in France two
years ago last March. He was invalided home and discharged about
fourteen months ago and was unable to do any work and could only take
short walks each day.
Although he kept up good spirits himself and had hopes of recovering,
those hopes were not shared by his friends. His condition grew worse and
he was confined to his bed, passing away at 4.30 on Sunday morning
Mr Lister was a married man and leaves a widow and four children, two
boys and two girls. One of the sons is 20 years of age and is serving in
France.
Before the war Mr Lister was a master jobbing mason and was well
known in the Shipley district. He attended the Windhill Parish Church and
was a member of the Independent Order of Oddfellows.
