William Mawson
William was the fourth of ten children of Baildon-born Joseph Mawson
and his Lincolnshire-born wife Caroline.
Although the report of his death says he was working at the gas works
before his call-up – and he was working there in 1901 – in the 1911
census he is given as a stoker railway engine.
All we have of his war service is this cutting:
Official intimation has been received of the death in action on 1st August*
of Gunner William Mawson, R.G.A. Gunner Mawson was 41 years of age
and the second son of Mr and Mrs Mawson, 106 Union Street, Shipley.
He was employed at the Shipley Gas Works for 21 years before he was
called up.
