At the time of the 1911 census, Herbert was a carter, living at the home of
his father in law, E E Hutchnson, in High Street, Idle.
As well as is wife Harriet there is his one-week old son Walter, though we
also learn that in the couple’s three-year marriage they have lost two
children.
On 7 December 1917, the Shipley Times & Express reported:
Official intimation has been received that Pte Herbert Parkinson, 2nd West
Yorks, has been killed in action on or about 20th November. He had been
in France about 12 months
Prior to joining the army he resided at 6 Garth Fold, Idle. Pte Parkinson
leaves a widow and one child.
