On 13 October 1916 the Shipley Times & Express
reported:
Pte A F Stansfield, son of Mr and the late Mrs
Stansfield, of Derby Terrace, Apperley Bridge and of
the West Yorkshire Regiment, is reported missing
since July 1st. Naturally his relatives will be glad to
hear of news concerning him.
Later the army said he was presumed dead, one of the
thousands killed on the first day of the Battle of the
Somme
