Official intimation has just been received to presume the death of Pte Joseph Turner, East Yorks Regt, who has been missing since 3rd May 1917. Pte Turner was 37 years of age and resided at 1 Thomas Place, Windhill. Previous to enlistment he was in the employ of Mr Dan Kershaw, of Bingley, as a quarryman. Pte Albert Turner, brother of Joseph and a member of the Duke of Wellington’s Regt., was one of the first to fall from Windhill, being killed at the Battle of the Marne.
