Gilbert Tasker Mahoney
His postcards home from the war
Home Page Home Page Home Page
When David Jackson moved into 4 Avondale Mount, Shipley, in 1979 the house was empty except for a solitary cardboard box in a dusty cellar It contained a treasure trove of postcards and documents written and collected by former resident Gilbert Tasker Mahoney, including many from when he was in World War 1. Strictly speaking, Gilbert’s war service was nothing to do with Shipley but the archive is so interesting that we are delighted to include it here. UPDATE: We are delighted to say that since this was first published, Gilbert’s granddaughter saw the pages and David Jackson has been able to restore the archive to the family.
